"Simon Peter, Do you love me?"
The risen Jesus appeared to his disciples a third time while they were fishing. They did not recognize him at first. When they told him they hadn't caught any fish all night, he told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. When they did, their net was so full they could barely lift it. Then John recognized Jesus and Peter jumped into the water and swam to shore. Jesus made them breakfast and he asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?" After the third time, Peter was sad because he knew Jesus was thinking of the three times Peter had denied him before he was crucified. But Jesus forgave Peter and gave him a very important job. He told him to "take care of my sheep." He wanted him to take care of people who would believe in Jesus. He said, "Follow me." And Peter did. Next week we will see Peter carrying out the very important job Jesus gave him.
