JESUS REJECTED IN HIS HOMETOWN

When Amelia, a visitor from Crosswalk, talked to KidZone, she was in for a surprise.  She told us her favorite color was turquoise and that she played basketball and soccer, and we believed her.  After all, we have known Amelia most of her life.  But when she said she had the power to heal all sicknesses, well, that was another story.  Who did she think she was? "We've known you for years. You can't do that!"  Then we picked up bricks to stone her!  (The bricks were cardboard, but you get the picture.)

All this fun was to illustrate what happened to Jesus when he returned to his hometown of Nazareth.  In the movie "Jesus of Nazareth," we heard him read from Isaiah about the coming of the Messiah.  When he told the crowd "the Scriptures are fulfilled," they were furious.  Wasn't this the carpenter's son?  They were so enraged they tried to stone him but he was able to leave without harm.  He said, "A prophet is never accepted in his hometown."

What's next on our journey with Jesus?  The Transfiguration! Join us Sunday at 10am to find out!

CHOPSTICKS IN KIDZONE??

Yes,  if you are going to learn about places like China, you need to have some rice.  And eating it with chopsticks was challenging but fun.  We learned how to say, "I love you" in Chinese.  We read what Paul had to say to the Corinthians about his time in Asia.  It was risky then just as it is now to spread the Gospel of Jesus in different parts of the world.  We are helping in Indonesia by sponsoring Erwin.  His family receives much needed help with food and clothing and Erwin goes to school where he learns about Jesus.

THE BOY JESUS IN THE TEMPLE

Can you imagine being separated from your parents in a strange city for three whole days - and you are only 12 years old!  That's what happened to Jesus when he and his family went to Jerusalem for the Passover.  After his family began their journey back to Nazareth, they discovered he was not with them.  By the time his parents returned to Jerusalem and found him, three days had passed.  I am sure his mother was frantic. Where did she find him?  In the temple. And he wasn't just listening.  He was asking questions and discussing Scripture with the priests. His mother had been so worried and she asked Jesus why he had stayed behind and not let them know where he was.  He replied, "Did you not know I would be in my Father's house?"  Mary found Jesus in the temple.  We can still find him in our place of worship.  Join us to learn from Jesus every Sunday in KidZone at 10am.
